The library, in collaboration with the Canton Museum of Art will present a live, virtual presentation with Christy Davis, the Curator of Exhibitions, on Masterworks from the Age of American Impressionism. Dancing in the Light: Masterworks from the Age of American Impressionism is an original exhibition event on works of American Impressionism, 1878 – c. 1930, with a focus on the uniquely American medium of watercolor. Dancing in the Light is the featured exhibition celebrating CMA’s 85th Anniversary during the 2020-2021 season.

The exhibition features paintings and works on paper borrowed from private collections, museum collections, and Canton Museum of Art’s own collection to tell the story of the movement of American Impressionism from its beginnings in France to the shores of America – and why it is still relevant and approachable today as one of the finest artistic periods. Some the preeminent American masters to be represented will include Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent, Robert Blum, Theodore Butler, Jane Peterson, William Merritt Chase, Edward Potthast, Ralph Curtis, Childe Hassam, and Alice Schille.

Christy Davis is the Curator of Exhibitions at the Canton Museum of Art and has been with the museum since 2019. Prior to joining the staff at CMA Christy was the Registrar at the Pro Football Hall of Fame for 12 years. Christy holds a BFA in Studio Art with a specialization in 2-dimensional design along with BA’s in both psychology and art therapy and a minor in art history from Capital University. She also holds a MA in Arts Administration from the University of Akron.
